About Hungry Owl Project
Hungry Owl Project (HOP) was founded by Alex Godbe in 2001 for the purposes of supporting owl populations, reducing the use of rodenticides, educating the public about owls, and promoting conservation of the birds’ habitat.
Alex was the Director of the Hungry Owl Project until 2018, when HOP merged to become a program of WildCare, based in Marin County, California.
The mission of the Hungry Owl Project continues to be eliminating the need for rat poison and other toxic chemicals by providing habitat for owls and other predators. We help owls by producing, distributing, installing, maintaining, and educating about the use of nesting boxes.
We monitor local owl populations and serve Marin County and the Bay Area by maintaining owl boxes and educating the public about sustainable pest management practices.
In 2018, Alex Godbe left HOP and moved to Sonoma County to start a new owl advocacy organization, All About Owls. All About Owls’ mission is conservation of raptor
species by inspiring responsible environmental stewardship throughout the community.
The original founders of the Hungry Owl Project are Alex Godbe, Darren Davis, Melanie Donaghy, Trinka Marris and Maggie Rufo.
